The Four Cardinal Virtues

Writer's picture: Ron Katz, PMRon Katz, PM

Part of the lessons of the first degree of Masonry are the Four Cardinal Virtues. Although listed in a different order, below is a stained-glass window which displays the virtues of temperance, fortitude, prudence and justice.

The charge at the end of the degree goes on to instruct “Let Temperance chasten, Fortitude support, and Prudence direct you, and let Justice be the guide of all your actions.

Freemasonry is the world's oldest and largest fraternity. It is comprised of adult men (18+) of good character from every country, religion, race, age, income, education, and opinion. Its body of knowledge and system of ethics is based on the belief that each man has a responsibility to improve himself while being devoted to his family, his faith, his country, and his fraternity.
