November is now upon us and as such, the 2024 calendar year is slowly coming to a close. November is derived from the Latin word “novem” meaning the number nine. In the early Roman calendar, November was the ninth month; however as the Roman calendar was revised over time, November became the eleventh month.
Notable holidays in November include: November 3rd when Daylight Savings time ends, November 11th when we celebrate Veterans Day and November 28th when we celebrate Thanksgiving. While most of us will celebrate the Thanksgiving holiday with a feast of turkey and stuffing, cranberries, and pumpkin pie, it should be pointed out that the first Thanksgiving in 1621, did not include any of those items. Most likely the menu at that time included venison, wild fowl, and shellfish.
In closing, I would also like to encourage all of the brethren of Crow Canyon Lodge No. 551 to attend a special meeting at the Lodge on Saturday November 2nd at 10:00 AM. As mentioned in Lyman’s article, Worshipful Allen Cuenca, our District Inspector, will discuss our officer’s line for next year (2025) as well as beyond. We need to have a full line of officers for 2025; however at the present time, not all positions are filled. We are in serious need of Master Masons to step forward and help fill the line. The Officer’s line is an integral part of the Lodge; without a complete line, we will be unable to conduct Lodge business and confer degrees.
Have a pleasant November and have a Happy Thanksgiving holiday.
