From the South

Today I was heading back to the office with my lunch, which happened to be a pizza I had ordered from 7-11.  On the corner was a man asking the people passing by for “a dollar… anything to help out…” – so I offered him some of my pizza.  He peered into the box I had opened in front of him, and then said “Oh, pepperoni? No, thanks.”  I moved on, and returned to my office.  My first instinct was to feel somewhat offended.  Why was my offer not good enough for him?  Perhaps he was in fact not so destitute, if an offer of free food would be so quickly turned down.  Then it occurred to me that many people do not eat pork, as a matter of religion.  If he were one such, and was in fact hungry, but feel that he had to refuse my offer because of his beliefs, then far be it for me to judge him unworthy of my aid, rather I should judge myself for thinking such unworthy thoughts!

As we encounter the changes which will be coming over the next few years, I think it’s important that we keep in mind that we are all in this together, and that we are all one family, created by one almighty parent, and inhabitants of the same planet.  We are in this together.  Remember that we should all aid, support and protect one another, and we should always strive to lead by example, be noble in the face of ignobility, and kind in the face of cruelness.

If you offer someone a helping hand, and they refuse it, don’t be offended.  Life’s too short to live it offended.

Freemasonry is the world's oldest and largest fraternity. It is comprised of adult men (18+) of good character from every country, religion, race, age, income, education, and opinion. Its body of knowledge and system of ethics is based on the belief that each man has a responsibility to improve himself while being devoted to his family, his faith, his country, and his fraternity.
